🎭 The GAP Theatre Review

So here it is the mystery review.

The GAP is currently running at Hope Mill Theatre, and if you haven’t been before, it really is one of Manchester’s hidden gems. Tucked away in Ancoats, the venue has an intimacy that suits this production perfectly.

This is a story about love, nostalgia, friendship, grit, loss, and the long road of life. It’s gently paced, reflective, and thoughtfully put together a play that gives its characters room to breathe and its audience time to absorb.

⭐ Performances

Matthew Kelly as Walter is quietly excellent. I’ll admit I was pleasantly surprised his performance is restrained, believable, and emotionally grounded.

Denise Welch (Corral / Caz) feels completely at home in the role. It’s a part that suits her natural presence, and she brings warmth and credibility throughout.

Their chemistry carries the production, and the smaller scale of the theatre only enhances the connection between actors and audience.

🎬 Overall Impression

This isn’t a loud or flashy production and it doesn’t need to be. It’s confident in its storytelling, emotionally honest, and beautifully staged in an intimate space.

The GAP is running until 16th March, and if you’re even remotely curious, it’s well worth your time.
As a bonus: they also do a banging latte ☕.

Score: 3/5 thoughtful, well performed, and refreshingly human.
