Tina Turner The Musical @ Palace Theatre Manchester
A powerful celebration of the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll
🎤 Tina Turner The Musical Palace Theatre Manchester
From the cotton fields of Nutbush, Tennessee to the global stages that crowned her the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Tina Turner The Musical charts one of the most extraordinary lives in music.
Tina didn’t just break rules she rewrote the book.
A survivor. A powerhouse. A 12 time Grammy winning icon whose story is as fierce as her voice.
The Palace Theatre Manchester proved the perfect backdrop for a show that is equal parts emotional storytelling and adrenaline-fuelled concert energy.
🎶 A Story of Resilience, Power and Transformation
Set to a soundtrack stacked with Tina’s biggest hits
The Best, What’s Love Got To Do With It?, River Deep, Mountain High, Private Dancer, and more
this musical dives deep into her life behind the spotlight.
We follow her from a tough childhood, through personal and professional struggles, and finally into her phoenix like rebirth as one of the greatest performers of all time.
The production doesn’t shy away from the darker chapters, but it also celebrates the grit, voice and spirit that made Tina a phenomenon.
🎭 A World Class Creative Team
Presented in association with Tina Turner herself, the musical carries a level of authenticity and reverence that shines throughout.
Written by Katori Hall (Olivier Award winner and Pulitzer Prize recipient for The Mountaintop) and directed by Phyllida Lloyd (of Mamma Mia! fame), the show balances raw emotional depth with huge, electrifying musical moments.
The choreography, staging and live vocals create a theatre experience that borders on a full blown rock concert.
☕ Pre-Show Secrets & Audience Chaos
We arrived in good time early enough to discover the secret, quiet coffee area hidden away in the Palace Theatre.
Honestly, it felt like the only calm corner in the whole building.
Once inside the main auditorium, things were… lively.
A bit too lively.
Some audience members seemed to forget they weren’t at a gig, with a bit of shouting and rowdiness peppered through the performance.
It didn’t ruin the show, but it was a reminder that not everyone understands theatre etiquette.
⭐ The Performance Itself
I’m not a massive Tina Turner superfan, but it’s impossible not to admire the sheer talent, energy and emotion behind this show.
- The lead actress delivered Tina’s vocals with staggering power
- The band recreated that huge, unmistakable Turner sound
- The staging carried the story from darkness to triumph seamlessly
- And the finale? Pure electricity. A standing-ovation moment if ever there was one
By the end, it was easy to see why this musical has been such a huge success around the world.
🎤 Final Thoughts
Even if Tina Turner isn’t at the top of your personal playlist, her story and this production is utterly compelling. It’s about survival, determination, reinvention and refusing to be defined by your past.
A brilliant night out, a fitting tribute to a music icon, and a reminder of just how influential Tina Turner truly was.
Simply the best.
