Review: Together in Electric Dreams North West Computer Museum, Leigh
Retro vibes, media mashups and a nostalgic night out
๐ญ Together in Electric Dreams 25th July 2025
We arrived at the North West Computer Museum in Leigh on 25th July 2025, excited for a proper retro night out. The free buffet at the start was welcome a bit of arcade gaming beforehand made us slightly late for the play, but the early arcade time was worth it. Air conditioning was much needed; it was boiling hot inside by the time the show started!
๐บ The Play Experience
Together in Electric Dreams was fantastic. The play was interwoven with media, making use of screens to bring additional layers to the story. It was engaging, funny, and nostalgic, especially for those who remember the original film and era. The limited seating made it feel more intimate, even if we had to squeeze in at the back.
๐น๏ธ Retro Gaming Fun
After the show, we wandered around the museum, which was a real treat. Playing Arcadians on the BBC Micro was a particular highlight proper retro vibes that brought back memories and made it feel like stepping into the 1980s. There was a lot to explore, and the combination of theatre and museum made for a unique, immersive night.
๐ Final Thoughts
All in all, it was an excellent evening:
- Great performance and media integration during the play
- Fun arcade and BBC gaming
- Nostalgic experience for fans of retro tech and 80s culture
- A proper night out that blended theatre, gaming, and museum exhibits
Definitely a recommendation for anyone in the North West looking for something quirky, engaging, and full of nostalgia.
